Notes made while listening to a podcast that has my whole heart, Good Morning, Obvious! (Ep #28 Living Alone).
Definitely a daily discovery, it can have a bittersweet taste in the beginning. It's a time to learn the meaning and weight of really setting up alone.
STAGES:
Deciding to live alone.
Be careful with idealizations.
Knowing how much you actually have to spend.
Knowing what is functional and what is luxury in the choices you make.
Invest in used furniture.
Have a housewarming party, even if simple, it helps in raising special gifts.
Learn to know yourself / deal with loneliness.
Your roommate (if the case) is not necessarily your friend.
Knowing the balance in becoming truly anti-social and enjoying being alone.
Doing things with people: work, group classes, physical exercise, friends group.
Arriving at the place "I am alone but I am enough"
Do things that are appropriate for your age as well.
5 TIPS FOR THOSE LOOKING FOR AN APARTMENT:
If you are going to share an apartment, don't just talk once/short time with the person. It's important to talk about tastes, interests, habits and etc.
Establish rules for coexistence: cleaning, hygiene, what can I eat? Who cleans what?
Talk about the electricity bill. When can you use the air conditioning? TV turned on for many hours a day. TIP: energy usage meter.
Make lists before going to the market. Talk to your roommate about common expenses. Do you want the cheapest or most expensive laundry detergent?
Know what you need. Don't accumulate unnecessary things.
Always give a present to your future self: "Future Fernanda doesn't want to wash dishes, so I'll wash them now." And if you are a person who likes memories, keep a box with photos, objects, and letters that you will really look at.
IF YOUR HOUSE IS A MESS, YOUR LIFE IS TOO!
SHOULD I ADOPT A PET?
Before adopting a pet, understand your lifestyle. Evaluate if your life supports a pet in the following areas:
Financial
Psychological
Lifestyle And most importantly, don't forget that in addition to a lot of love and affection, pets also need to eat and make messes.
Always have an "SOS Fund" for any unexpected events that come your way. When you least expect it, your refrigerator will burn out or your washing machine will break. Be prepared for that.
Also, never forget to visit the apartment as many times as necessary before buying/renting. Go in the morning, afternoon, and evening sun and take different people who understand real estate and will pay attention to things we don't even dream of analyzing.
And most importantly of all:
Don't blame yourself and don't rush to find the perfect apartment, things happen at the right time!
